IRREGULAR ENGLISH VERBS

Hay cinco maneras en que un verbo en inglés pueda ser

irregular en el pasado y en el participio pasado (que se

usa en los tiempos perfectos). English verbs can be

irregular in five ways.


1. El verbo puede ser diferente tres veces: en

presente, en pasado y en el participio pasado.

Some verbs are different in the present tense,

in the past tense and in the past participle.


begin, began, begun (empezar)

bite, bit, bitten (morder)

blow, blew, blown (soplar)

break, broke, broken (quebrar)

do, did, done (hacer)

draw, drew, drawn (dibujar, sacar en un sorteo, atraer, jalar o tirar)

drink, drank, drunk (beber, tomar)

drive, drove, driven (manejar, conducir)

eat, ate, eaten (comer)

fall, fell, fallen (caer)

fly, flew, flown (volar)

forget, forgot, forgotten (olvidar)

freeze, froze, frozen (congelar)

get, got, gotten (conseguir, recibir, comprar, llegar y más)

give, gave, given (dar)

go, went, gone (ir)

grow, grew, grown (crecer)

hide, hid, hidden (esconder)

know, knew, known (saber, conocer)

prove, proved, proven (probar, comprobar)

ride, rode, ridden (ir como pasajero en algún modo de transporte, montar a caballo, andar en bicicleta, etc.)

ring, rang, rung (sonar una campana o un timbre)

rise, rose, risen (levantarse, ponerse de pie, ascender)

see, saw, seen (ver)

sew (so), sewed (sod), sewn (son) (coser)

shake, shook, shaken (sacudir, agitar)

show, showed, shown (mostrar)

shrink, shrank, shrunk (encogerse)

sing, sang, sung (cantar)

sink, sank, sunk (hundirse, bajar)

speak, spoke, spoken (hablar)

spring, sprang, sprung (brincar - como gato)

                             El uso común es: go swimming, went swimming y gone swimming

take, took, taken (tomar, llevar)

tear, tore, torn (rasgar)

throw, threw, thrown (tirar, lanzar)

wake, woke, woken (despertar)

wear, wore, worn (llevar puesto)

weave, wove, woven (tejer)

write, wrote, written (escribir)


2. El pasado y el participio pueden ser idénticos.

In some verbs the past tense and the past

participle are the same.

buy, bought, bought (comprar)

catch, caught, caught (coger, atrapar)

feed, fed, fed (dar de comer)

grind, ground, ground (moler)

hang, hung, hung (colgar)

have, had, had (tener, haber)

hear, heard, heard (oír)

hold, held, held (cargar o sostener, esperar en el teléfono, contener, detener)

keep, kept, kept (guardar, conservar, continuar)

kneel, knelt, knelt (arrodillarse)

lay, laid, laid (poner, colocar)

lead, led, led (dirigir, guiar, encabezar)

leave, left, left (salir, irse, dejar)

lie, lay, lain (estar acostado, acostarse)

light, lit, lit (encender, iluminar, posarse un ave o

insecto) ¡También se usa como verbo regular!

3. El presente y el participio pueden ser idénticos.

Here are two examples of verbs that are the

same in the present tense and the past parti-

ciple. The past tense is different.


come, came, come (venir)

run, ran, run (correr)



4. Algunos verbos no cambian de un tiempo a otro.

Some verbs don't change.


bet, bet, bet (apostar)

fit, fit, fit (ropa o zapatos: estar a la medida; encajar)

hit, hit, hit (pegar)

5. Un verbo es igual en presente y pasado.

Beat is the same in present tense and in

past tense, but the past participle is

different.
